Basal squamules persistent, small, inconspicuous, 1–2 mm long, 0.5–1 mm diam., iregularly lobed, with crenate margins. Podetia growing from basal squamules, simple, 1–2 cm tall, 0.5–1 mm diam., with blunt apices or narrow scyphi, or 2–4 cm tall, 1–2 mm diam., with well defined scyphi, with or without simple or scyphiferous marginal proliferations; cortex subwarted at base becoming ecorticate and minutely squamulose, finally floury-sorediate; interior of scyphi floury-sorediate. Apothecia marginal on scyphi, convex, brown; not seen in Australian specimens. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
An uncommon species in Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic.; also in North and South America, Africa, Asia and Papaua New Guinea; grows on soil or dead wood. | ||
